Hans J. Wegner designed the Wing Chair in 1960. Only a small number were initially produced, and Carl Hansen & Søn reintroduced the design as the CH445 in 2006. Its high back spreads into pointed upper corners, while the arms turn inward around a broad seat. The upholstered body is held above a stainless steel base.

Inside the upholstery, a solid beech frame establishes the chair’s underlying shape. Padding is arranged to support the back, shoulders, neck and head in different sitting positions. Four small steel connectors join the upper body to the base. The front legs lean forward slightly, while the rear legs extend well behind the seat to stabilize the reclining form.

The illustrated black leather version makes the boundary between padded enclosure and thin metal support especially clear. A horizontal seam divides the upper back from the central cushion, and the separate seat pad completes the layered interior. The Wing Chair expands Wegner’s vocabulary beyond exposed timber joinery, using upholstery itself to define a large and expressive sitting space.
